Yesterday I accidentally made one of those Ghost Calls on my iPhone and ended up calling Ken, an awesome young fellow who worked for us at A Brighter Day Chem-Dry last year. I couldn’t have picked a better time to call him, as he told me he was on his way to his RCMP Graduate Banquet in Regina! Congratulations Ken on your new career and thank you for the time you shared with us in our business.

Our annual convention last week in Orlando was a huge hit. The second biggest gathering of Chem-Dry franchises ever took away a wealth of positive energy and business-building ideas from Disney World. This was the best line-up of guest speakers ever. Here are some of the highlights.

Roy and I still have 2 young children at home. What that tells you is that the challenges that can be had cleaning and maintaining our home go on and on. Our youngest of four boys, Donny, is now 6 and he has been, by far, the hardest on our carpet of all the children.
I would say that we have some sort of occurrence almost daily. The thing is that we can live in our home knowing that it’s clean and sanitary because of the knowledge and skills acquired from operating a Chem-Dry franchise for 21 of the 27 years we’ve been married. I remember someone being kind enough to loan us a couch, early in our marriage, as we had none. The thing is no one could sit on it because it smelled like cat pee. At that time we have no idea what to do. We tried soap and water. It just seemed to make it sticky, which didn’t really matter because no one sat on it anyway. We got deodorizers. Total waste of money! All that did was offer a feeble attempt at blending flowers and cat pee. Yuck! We even rented one of those cleaning machines from the grocery store. Soak and suck! Those things are labor intensive and the clean-looking results are temporary at best. The soap just contributed to the stickiness left in the fabric.

We have compiled a list of handy tips and suggestions for you to help deal with spots and stains when they inevitably happens. If your carpet has been treated with Chem-Dry’s Protectant, then you already have a huge advantage in removing stains.
Stain Removal Tips:
- Act Quickly: The longer the stain is allowed to remain, the more chance it has to set.
- Know what kind of stain you are working on as well as the type of fabric or surface it is on so you can choose the best product.
- Remove as much excess stain by blotting, scraping or brushing whatever will come off. DO NOT rub it in.
- Test all fabrics and carpets by spraying a small amount of Chem-Dry Professional Strength Spot Remover or Chem-Dry Grease & Oil Remover on a hidden area, blot dry and observe for 10 minutes. Make sure there is no carpet colour removal onto the cloth and that, when dry, there is no visible discoloration in the area you cleaned.
- Work from the outside edge of the stain to the inside to keep the stain from spreading.
- Call Chem-Dry for expert spot & stain removal if these efforts do not work.
